Passport (check), new swimsuit (check), hotel reservations (check)…Chiropractor appointment? Summertime and family vacations are in full swing. Your kids will look back on all of these vacations/road trips with some fond memories. You don’t want them to have memories of anyone being grumpy on vacation because of a sore back. Long periods of sitting in cramped positions on planes, in transit lounges or cars, sleeping in different beds (without familiar supportive pillows), reduced hydration and the stress of travel and time zones on the nervous system can all take their toll. So why haven’t you added a chiropractor visit to your checklist before and/or after vacation?
Here are a few tips to help you get through this travel season:
Get More Lumbar Support-buy a lumbar support pillow and use it if you are taking a road trip. You can also use a travel pillow in cars or planes to support your neck and aid in keeping your cervical spine in alignment.
Get a good nights sleep-if you are stuck doing the driving, make sure you spring for a hotel’s night stay with a supportive mattress that will give you a restful night’s sleep. Concerned about neck pain? Make space to bring your pillows from home!
Hydrate-this is a must for all! Remember the importance to hydrate with water and not soda. Eletrolyte balance is key when hydrating. Consider taking some Vitalyte Sample packs with you! You can get them at our front desk, stock up before you head out.
Take probiotics-Take a high-quality probiotic like MegaSpore. A probiotic supplement can help prevent various conditions (like constipation and nausea) that many people get while traveling. This is also one that we have in stock at our office.
It has been proven that vacations raise energy levels, can strengthen relationships and can help you live longer. All great reasons to set up a getaway with the family this summer. But before you go (and upon your return) don’t forget to set up an appointment at Amundson Chiropractic Health Services for an adjustment. Going on a vacation with a healthy spine and nervous system can make your trip more enjoyable while also improving your health and well-being. Go ahead, adjust your lifestyle and take a vacation. You will be glad you did.
